Why the form of CoQ10 you take matters more than the dose
CoQ10 exists in the body in two forms: ubiquinone, the oxidised form, and ubiquinol, the reduced, active antioxidant form. In healthy adults, roughly 95% of the CoQ10 circulating in the blood is already in the ubiquinol form, and the body has to convert ubiquinone into ubiquinol before it can be used the same way. Most conventional CoQ10 supplements use ubiquinone, which means your body still has to do that conversion work. Ubiquinol skips that step, since it's already in the form the body uses. This matters most for people whose CoQ10 levels are already under pressure, as CoQ10 naturally declines with age. For this group, choosing a form that the body can use directly may make it easier for the body to utilise CoQ10.

Why Kaneka Ubiquinol™
Kaneka Ubiquinol™ is a patented, yeast-fermented ubiquinol ingredient that is bioidentical to the ubiquinol the body produces naturally. It's manufactured by Kaneka Corporation, the company that first developed a commercially viable process for stabilising ubiquinol outside the body. A human safety and bioavailability study, involving healthy volunteers given single and 4-week repeated doses, found no clinically relevant changes in laboratory tests, vital signs, or ECG readings at any dose tested, and confirmed the ingredient was reliably absorbed into plasma [1].
The evidence for this specific dose is solid. A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial published in Nutrients (2020) gave adults with mild-to-moderate dyslipidemia either 100mg/day or 200mg/day of ubiquinol, or a placebo, for 8 weeks. The 100mg/day group, the same dose in this product, showed a statistically significant improvement in flow-mediated dilation, a standard measure of how well blood vessels widen in response to increased blood flow, compared with placebo (+1.34%, p<0.001) [2]. Plasma CoQ10 levels also rose significantly in both treated groups, confirming the dose was actually absorbed and used.

Key Benefits
Supports heart health
In the 8-week randomised trial described above, 100mg/day of ubiquinol significantly improved flow-mediated dilation, a marker of healthy blood vessel function, compared with placebo [2]. This reflects support for vascular health markers, not a claim to treat or prevent heart disease.

Supports energy production
CoQ10, is a required cofactor in the mitochondrial electron transport chain, the pathway your cells use to generate ATP, the body's primary energy currency. This is a well-established, foundational role of CoQ10 in human cell biology, independent of any single clinical trial.

Provides antioxidant support
Ubiquinol is the active antioxidant form of CoQ10. In the same 8-week trial, ubiquinol supplementation was associated with improved resistance of LDL cholesterol to oxidation, one pathway by which antioxidants are thought to support healthy blood vessel function [2]. Separately, a randomised trial in healthy adults found that short-term ubiquinol supplementation reduced markers of oxidative stress associated with strenuous exercise [3], supporting its antioxidant role beyond the cardiovascular context alone.

Supports reproductive health
Sperm cells rely heavily on mitochondria for the energy needed for motility, and are especially vulnerable to oxidative damage. A double-blind, placebo-controlled randomised trial of 228 men with unexplained infertility gave one group 200mg/day of ubiquinol and the other a placebo for 26 weeks. The ubiquinol group showed significantly higher sperm density, motility, and normal morphology than placebo at the end of treatment [4]. CoQ10 is also essential for healthy egg cells. As women age, CoQ10 levels and oocyte quality may naturally decline. Emerging research suggests that CoQ10 supplementation may support ovarian response and oocyte quality in women undergoing fertility treatment.

Directions of Use
Take 1 capsule daily with any meal containing healthy fats to enhance absorption, as ubiquinol is a fat-soluble nutrient. Or take as directed by a healthcare professional. Store in a cool and dry place.

Caution: Individuals with medical conditions should consult a healthcare professional before using any dietary supplements.

Who is this suitable for?
-Adults over 40, given the natural age-related decline in the body's own CoQ10 production
-Adults who want CoQ10 already in its active, bioidentical form, rather than the oxidised form that requires conversion
-Adults looking for a well-studied antioxidant to pair with their existing cardiovascular or wellness routine
-Vegans and vegetarians, given the vegetable capsule format and yeast-fermented ingredient source
-Men and women looking to support reproductive health and fertility

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What's the difference between ubiquinol and regular CoQ10 (ubiquinone) supplements?
A: Ubiquinone is the oxidised form and needs to be converted by your body before it can function as an antioxidant. Ubiquinol is already in that active, reduced form, which is also the form that makes up about 95% of the CoQ10 circulating in a healthy adult's blood.

Q: Why do I need to take this with food?
A: Ubiquinol is fat-soluble, meaning it's absorbed better alongside dietary fat. Taking it with a meal that contains healthy fats, as directed on the label, helps your body absorb more of it.

Q: Does this treat heart disease?
A: No. The clinical evidence we cite shows ubiquinol improved a marker of blood vessel function in an 8-week study. That's meaningfully different from treating or preventing a diagnosed cardiovascular condition, and we want to be upfront about that distinction.

Q: How long before I notice a difference?
A: The clinical trial we reference measured changes at 4 and 8 weeks, with the significant improvement in vessel function recorded at 8 weeks. Individual experiences with any supplement will vary.
